I know, I know. I’m sure you’re all wondering, what the hell happened up there. The short of it is lots of great things. Bear with me while I re-adjust to life back on the range and I’ll get you guys a great recap from the RNC.
A quick update. In these past few months trying to raise all we can to get to national all of us have looked for ways to continue to reduce what we need. I’m happy to announce that every one of our delegates are now rooming with at least two other people reducing the actual needed money for the hotel by 1/3!
As a result we’ve updated the chipin and the costs page.
Defining freedom is simple to do with words, but words forever fall short. Freedom is living your life the way you wish to live it. They are simple words but they do not illustrate the varying degrees involved. They do not account for culture and perception. Freedom to a Cuban is likely different from freedom to an American. H.L. Mencken once stated, “The average man doesn’t want to be free, he wants to be safe.” Judging from the 2008 primary election results, Mencken looks like a genius. more…
OTTAWA (AFP) - The weakened US dollar has fallen out of favor with organized crime groups to pay for drug shipments or to settle scores, a Canadian government report said Friday. And if the greenback continues its slide in 2008, as expected, more and more criminals are likely to exchange euros for illicit goods, said Criminal Intelligence Service Canada in its annual report.
“The US dollar weakened significantly against other major currencies in 2007 and according to some economists, is expected to depreciate further in 2008,” said the report.
“As a consequence, other currencies — particularly the euro — are poised to weaken the US dollar’s dominance as the currency of choice for international remittances and payments,” it said.
“This trend could also drive an increase in observed instances of bulk-cash transfers denominated in currencies other than Canadian and US dollars,” the report added. more…

The Russian invasion of Georgia has not changed the balance of power in Eurasia. It simply announced that the balance of power had already shifted. The United States has been absorbed in its wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as potential conflict with Iran and a destabilizing situation in Pakistan. It has no strategic ground forces in reserve and is in no position to intervene on the Russian periphery. This, as we have argued, has opened a window of opportunity for the Russians to reassert their influence in the former Soviet sphere. Moscow did not have to concern itself with the potential response of the United States or Europe; hence, the invasion did not shift the balance of power. The balance of power had already shifted, and it was up to the Russians when to make this public. They did that Aug. 8. more…
Update: For some reason we couldnt get the chip-in to register an offline donation of $1,000. It’s a shame since we would’ve liked to have seen it exceed 50%!
We would all like to thank those that helped push us toward our goal of $6,000 yesterday. This was an amazing show of support and we did much better than any of us anticipated for a one day event.
The donations ranged anywhere from $5 to $200 with most hovering around $25. This has invigorated us delegates immensely. We are further resolved in our efforts to help bring sanity back to our party!
A special shout out to one particular money-bomb angel who donated over $1,000! Thanks Laura!
Oh, and by the way, if you missed the money-bomb, don’t worry, we’ll still take your contribution! =)
Well, today is the day! The donations have been coming in steadily (just got one for $50!) and we expect even more later today. Although we probably wont hit our big goal, today will be a huge boost! Thanks to all who chip in!
Over $1400 pledges came in the past week. Thanks again!
Well, we launched our sweet new money bomb site where people can pledge to donate to our cause. If things go well, on Thursday August 14, we’ll cash in those pledges to further help us raise the money we need.
So far the counter is up to about 12 donors averaging at $40 per donor. That translates to around $500! The goal was 200 pledges but I’m pretty sure that’ll never happen. Either way, it’s an awesome effort and I couldn’t be happier about it!
Doesn’t look to bad either if I may say so myself!
P.S. Feel free to pledge
Quote of the Day:
“Do you want our government to have the ability to track where you went, how you went, how you got there and when you got home? It would be naïve for someone to think this information will not be abused in the future. Virtually every decade these kinds of files have been used to violate people’s privacy.”
– Brian Schweitzer, Governor of Montana
—–###—–
We knew that the state of Montana was resisting the REAL ID Act, but we just learned some of the details of that resistance. The story is so good we had to share it, in case you hadn’t heard . . .
Brian Schweitzer, the governor of Montana, wrote a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff. The letter informed Chertoff that Montana would not be complying with the REAL ID Act. Our quote of the day supplies one of the reasons for Governor Schweitzer’s rebellion. In response to the letter . . . more…
